Bodies, Boundaries, & Sexuality Education in the Early Years

Thursday, June 6th, 2024 | 7:30-8:30 pm PST | FREE | Live on Zoom

As parents, caretakers, adult family members, and early learning professionals, many of us have felt ill-equipped and uncertain at times when it comes to supporting young children's sexual development. We may have grown up in a family or culture where talking about human sexuality was awkward, shrouded in mystery, confusing, or perhaps even laden with shame. When it comes to the children in our care, we may find ourselves wondering: What is appropriate for them to know at their age? What kind of boundaries should I be setting when it comes to their curiosities and explorations? What do I do if I see them playing "doctor" with another kid?!?!

Sexuality and Relationship Educator, Claire Appelmans, is here to reassure us that curiosity about bodies, communicating about body boundaries, and questions about sex & sexuality are all typical and normal early childhood behaviors. Join fellow parents/caregivers and early childhood educators to learn how to respond when these behaviors show up at home and in the classroom. Learn what topics to cover, games to play, books to read, and videos to watch together so your children grow up connected, confident, and knowledgeable.

Bring any questions you have related to body, boundary, and sexuality education in early childhood, or submit your question ahead of time when you register!

Presented in partnership with Hilltop Children’s Center.

Talking with Kids About Pornography

Thursday, June 13th, 2024 | 6-7 pm PST | $25 | Live on Zoom

Pornography is shaping the way children understand and relate to themselves, their peers, and sexuality.

A study conducted by Common Sense Media in 2022 found that over half of children ages 13 and younger had seen pornography. Join other parents in this live online class to make sure that your children do not have to make sense of pornography on their own.

In class we cover what messages to share with your younger and older children about pornography, how to support them if they have seen it, and which educational materials to share with them at home. Get ahead of porn exposure and leave class feeling confident you can talk with your child at home. For parents with children ages 6+.

Bodies, Boundaries, and Sex Ed in the Early Years

Friday, June 28th, 2024 | 12-1 pm PST | $25 | Live on Zoom

Sexuality education starts at birth. From the moment they are born, children learn about bodies, boundaries, relationships, touch, and pleasure. These early years are an important time to establish open communication about sexuality at home. Learn what topics to cover, games to play, books to read, and videos to watch together so your children grow up connected, confident, and knowledgeable about sexuality.
